I live in Chicago, which means that for me, winter is synonymous with single digit temperatures, icy winds, and lots of snow. As any of my fellow far-north dwellers can attest, keeping your look up to par can be pretty tricky when any hint of exposed skin opens you up to the threat of severe frostbite. Survival over fashion, every time, am I right?
BUT not to worry, because as it happens, there are many clothing items out there that serve the dual purpose of being both cute and warm. Perfect. Here are a few of my current faves (plus an accessory or two, just for fun):
Tom’s booties
I wear these cutie things everywhere. They’re the perfect winter shoe, because they have a bit more pizazz than a pair of snow boots, but they also cover your entire foot – no exposed skin. And they’re wedges, which is always a bonus for us short girls:)
Monogram necklace from Anthropologie
I’m a fan of simple, elegant jewelry, and I also tend to favor gold over silver. I was looking for a monogram necklace (I was inspired by Giada de Laurentis, actually – I was watching her show on Food Network a while ago and noticed the gorgeous monogram necklace that she usually wears.) I looked around in quite a few different places before coming across this necklace from Anthropologie.
Blouson coat from Ann Taylor Loft
I just got this adorable coat from Ann Taylor Loft, and I can’t wait for the right occasion to
wear it! It feels very Doris Day to me, and will pair perfectly with a dress, some heels, and a cute handbag.
Scarf from Madewell
I’m pretty obsessed with scarves as a general matter, so when I say that this one is my favorite of all the scarves I’ve had for quite a while, it’s saying something. This is hands down the warmest scarf I have found in years, and the material is such that it can easily be wrapped around the lower half of your face and your ears on particularly cold days, and even better, it’ll stay put (no sliding down around your neck.) HIGHLY recommend.
So. Those are my current wardrobe favorites, but we can’t stop there, because anyone who knows me knows that I have an ongoing love affair with cozy sweaters. Any store that I walk into during chillier months, I enter resigned to the fact that I will be leaving with at least one new sweater, even if that’s not remotely close to what I was actually looking for. I simply can’t help myself. As soon as the weather gets even sort of cool enough for sweaters to be acceptable, I break my collection out of winter storage.
I have way too many favorite sweaters to be listed in one post, but in the spirit of sharing my true love for this (very winter-appropriate) clothing article, I chose three of my current favorites:
Kent Cardigan Sweater in Heather Pine from Madewell
This cardigan is unbelievably soft and super warm. I’ve actually branched out from wearing it as part of outside-the-house outfits to wearing it over PJs as a sort of robe – it’s that comfy.
Pink wrap sweater from Ann Taylor Loft
I actually don’t wear much pink, but I loved this sweater as soon as I saw it. It’s more like a cream color with a hint of blush, so it’s in keeping with my penchant for neutrals. Even better – it’s a wrap sweater. I’m only slightly obsessed with wrap sweaters at the moment.
Plum v-neck from Madewell
Plum is one of my all-time favorite colors, which drew me immediately to this sweater. I also really love that it’s on the thin side for a sweater – perfect for fall days when there’s just a slight chill in the air.
I hope this list inspires you as you carry on through your very own chic winter season!
